PulteGroup and Delray Beach CRA Partner to Help Bridge Residential Affordability Gap in Delray Beach
20 single-family residences planned for low- and moderate-income buyers at Carver Square; Builder committed to home affordability
DELRAY BEACH/WEST PALM BEACH, FL–(February 9, 2022) – PulteGroup, in partnership with the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), is bringing affordable housing to historic Carver Square in Delray Beach. Qualifying residents can purchase one- and two-story residences through the Palm Beach County’s Workforce Housing Program now open for applications.
In 2005, the Delray Beach CRA began acquiring two blocks of single-family properties- 20 lots total– in the Carver Square subdivision for the purpose of adding affordable housing stock in Delray Beach. Now, the site is being developed through a partnership with PulteGroup. The purpose of the Delray Beach CRA is to revitalize the physical environment and the economy of its designated redevelopment area.
“One of the methods that we use to fulfill this purpose is through assisting with the provision of affordable housing, whether for rent or for sale, to residents of low- or moderate- income, including the elderly,” said Delray Beach CRA Executive Director Renee Jadusingh.
“Carver Square is an integral part of PulteGroup’s promise to give back to the communities where we operate,” PulteGroup Southeast Florida Division President Brent Baker said. “As part of that pledge and consistent with our philanthropic philosophy, we will be offering the homes at the county’s lower 2020 prices rather than its current ones.” Prices will range from $166,110 to $308,490.
PulteGroup recently acquired the two-block property from the Delray Beach CRA. The site sits west of Southwest 7th Avenue, east of Southwest 8th Avenue, and between Southwest 2nd Court and Southwest 3rd Street. The neighborhood will offer two one- and two-story floor plans with 3-5 bedrooms, 2 to 2.5 baths, and 2-car garages.
Pulte has partnered with Community Greening, a Palm Beach County non-profit, to gift a fruit tree to each new Carver Square buyer. The organization, which was named “Non-Proft of the Year” by the Greater Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce, works with residents and organizations to improve the environment by planting trees and transforming urban green spaces.
“At Carver Square, our focus is on bringing high-quality, affordable housing to Delray Beach,” Baker said. “The new homes will include impact windows, SMART home technology and a full appliance package.”
“As an organization, we are excited about the workforce housing opportunities at Carver Square,” Jadusingh said.. “The CRA is pleased to be working with PulteGroup and realize our goal for this property’s redevelopment.”
Construction is expected to begin on the first five homes in mid-to-late February. PulteGroup anticipates releasing those homes for sale 45 to 90 days into the building process to give buyers enough time to plan their purchase and move. Interested buyers should go the website www.LiveatCarverSquare.com to learn more about the buying process, which includes attending an orientation, meeting with the county’s workforce housing program, and securing financing.
Pulte Group’s affordable housing commitment extends throughout Palm Beach County. In 2018, PulteGroup partnered with agencies including the West Palm Beach Housing Authority to build residences for low- and moderate-income homebuyers. The first of 34 townhomes and two single-family residences at MerryPlace Estates in West Palm Beach was celebrated in June 2021 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at which the homeowner was given the keys to her residence.
